Wooded track through Tarangire National Park, Tanzania
Tanzania

Tarangire

Overview

Baobab-studded country along the Tarangire river, holding the largest elephant concentrations in northern Tanzania during the dry season. As surrounding water sources fail, game funnels to the river and the density becomes remarkable. Tarangire also has tree-climbing pythons, fringe-eared oryx and over 550 recorded bird species. It sits close to Arusha and is often the first stop on the northern circuit.
