Mount Kilimanjaro

Overview

Africa's highest mountain at 5,895 metres, and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Climbers pass through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert and glacier in under a week. The Machame and Lemosho routes give the best acclimatisation and the highest success rates. No technical climbing is required, but the altitude is serious and the pace matters more than fitness.
