Ngorongoro Crater

Overview

The largest intact volcanic caldera on earth, six hundred metres deep and holding around 25,000 animals that cannot easily leave. Black rhino, huge elephant bulls and dense lion prides share grassland, soda lake and fever-tree forest inside the crater floor. Because the wildlife is enclosed, sightings are reliable in every season. Lodges sit on the forested rim with the whole caldera below them.
